There are several different approaches to using CAM. They are classified by how they work therapeutically and can be separated into categories nutritional, psychological, physical, and a combination (NIH, 2021). Another form of CAM is spiritual healing that consists of prayer. Prayer is a form of CAM that focus on the mind and body. In a study conducted in 2002 showed that prayer was the most common form of CAM therapy resulting in more than 60% of those who were part of the survey used prayer (Tippens et al., 2009). The study also conclude that when prayer was included with CAM the number of individuals using CAM increased (Tippnes et al., 2009). Alternative/Complementary medicine in health care are increasing and becoming more known among patients for better outcomes and healthier lifestyles.
